Swami Vivekananda Medical College & Hospital, Palampur

Health Care

The Swami Vivekanand Medical College and Hospital occupies a built-up area of 10,00,000 sq. ft. on a 50-acre plot in Palampur. With a scenic mountain range as the backdrop, the environment is conducive for patients to heal by virtue of being close to the soothing effects of nature. A well-planned parking space and one-way traffic encourage pedestrian movement in the complex. The low, multi-level blocks expand horizontally, ensuring provision of natural daylight within the interiors through chhajjas and cut-outs – a harmonious juxtaposition of the horizontal and the vertical. The compact planning of the buildings is a conscious decision by the Architects, as it makes movement less cumbersome for the patients. With around 70 per cent of the land kept open and green, the facility utilized its unique location to its utmost benefit. Lush green views enable patients to dwell in nature while undergoing treatment. The contours of the site are used to the design’s advantage, with spatial planning and movement properly envisioned and controlled. Distinct circulation is planned for patients, visitors and staff.
