Glaxo SmithKline Beecham, Sonepat

Industrial

Located in Sonepat, Haryana, Glaxo SmithKline Beecham (GSB) was designed as an industrial unit for the preparation of health food and dairy products. The complex comprises a total built-up area of 4,00,000 sq. ft. and was implemented in accordance with the stringent standards of the Danish Dairy Board. The project involved design of different constituents such as production block, annexe block, general store, workshop, warehouse, along with services for cooling, firefighting, boiler room, water treatment area, etc. The first phase comprised various plant and non-plant buildings, including complex utility services, process piping, air-conditioning and FDV system. Unlike other industries, dairy manufacturing requires a vertical setup for production. The Architects’ proposal derived inspiration from a Brutalist design ideology and assimilated a design of sturdy yet sculptural edifices. By using a tiered form, the magnificence of the buildings appeared amplified, creating a never-seen-before aesthetic in industrial design.
