Yashobhoomi - India International Convention & Expo Centre Wins the Prestigious International Architecture Award 2025

On the eve of India's 79th Independence Day, nation's architectural excellence has been celebrated on the world stage with Yashobhoomi - India International Convention & Expo Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi, receiving the International Architecture Award 2025. Presented by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, this recognition places Yashobhoomi among the best civic centres in the world.

Inaugurated by the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 17 September 2023, Yashobhoomi is counted among the three largest convention centres globally and is the first of its scale and kind in India. Spanning 225 acres with a built-up area of 2.2 million square feet, it has been envisioned as a smart, mixed-use urban development that seamlessly blends technology, culture, and innovation. Designed by C.P. Kukreja Architects in collaboration with IDOM, the project reflects India's ambition to create infrastructure capable of hosting world-class conferences, exhibitions, and cultural events, while also embodying the spirit of sustainability, accessibility, and cultural pride.

The International Architecture Awards are among the most respected global honours in architecture, celebrating outstanding achievements in design, urban planning, and landscape architecture. This year's edition saw more than 1,200 entries from leading design practices across the world. The award will be bestowed at the historic Acropolis in Athens, Greece, a cradle of architectural heritage.

At the heart of Yashobhoomi is its state-of-the-art convention centre, capable of hosting over 11,000 people. It includes a main auditorium seating more than 6,000, a grand ballroom for over 2,300 guests, and 15 convention rooms with a combined capacity of 3,000 people. The flexible exhibition halls can be configured to suit a variety of events. One of the project's defining features is its 100,000 square foot external LED video wall, the largest in Asia, which wraps around the building and tilts outward for optimal viewing. The upcoming indoor arena will also introduce India's first circular retractable roof.

Yashobhoomi has been conceived as a model for sustainable and inclusive urban infrastructure. The campus has been designed for seamless integration with Delhi's transport network, featuring a metro station within the site, extensive pedestrian zones, and provisions for electric transport. Green boulevards, shaded public spaces, and water features improve the microclimate, creating a biodiverse urban landscape within a dense metropolitan area.

More than an architectural accomplishment, Yashobhoomi stands as a statement of India's capability to match and exceed global standards in design, engineering, and urban vision. Its recognition at the International Architecture Awards affirms the nation's growing influence in shaping world-class civic spaces, making this moment a fitting tribute as the country celebrates its independence and looks ahead to a future defined by innovation, cultural confidence, and sustainable growth.
