Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri, North Bengal, serves as a key gateway to the Eastern Himalayas, linking destinations like Darjeeling, Gangtok, Kalimpong, Kurseong, and Mirik. Designed as a civil enclave within the Bagdogra Air Force Station, the airport embodies a sustainable, futuristic vision with the goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions. Addressing the site’s flood-prone terrain, the design integrates advanced storm water management systems with retaining walls, swales, and underground drainage to ensure resilience. Drawing inspiration from the Kangchenjunga range and Darjeeling’s tea estates, the terminal’s façade of parametric aluminium fins reflects the region’s landscape, establishing it as both an architectural landmark and an environmentally sensitive infrastructure that harmonizes connectivity, sustainability, and local heritage.
