Kabliji Hospital, Gurugram

Health Care

Seventy-five kilometres away from Delhi and located in Gurugram, Haryana, the Kabliji Hospital – designed as a modern air-conditioned building complex with several well-equipped wards and state-of-the-art medical and surgical facilities – is set within a rural environment. Nestled in a site surrounded by thick vegetation, the single-storeyed structure seamlessly merges with the texture and colour of the dense trees of the Aravalli range that lies in the vicinity. The hospital complex consists of different blocks placed close to each other. Connectivity from one block to another is an open walk under dense trees, an experience that inspired the Architects to make landscape an integral part of the site. Blue quartzite stone from the Aravallis is used to create pavers on the ground. The pitched roof design maintains thermal comfort for the patients in sweltering summer heat. Executed on a shoestring budget, the design breaks stereotypes in constructing a facility which is an extension of the values of local habitation.
