GPRA Colony, New Delhi

Redevelopment/ Master Planning

This is a campus expansion project on the busy Gurgaon–Faridabad Highway. The aim is to initiate a building cluster for institutes such as THSTI, RCB, NIPGR, NBRC and NII.

The site planning has been sensitive towards the natural water channels that exist on location. The building placements are configured in such a way that they do not disturb existing water collection and water movement paths. Alongside these precautions, the cluster will have a rainwater collection tank, as well as a sewage-treatment plant to help in recycling water for slushing, irrigation and cooling needs. The building façade has been developed using advanced energy simulation tools, with the final façade design consisting of a combination of overhangs, skins and tapered walls. The orientation of the buildings is predominantly north to south; the façade on the southern side, in particular, is tapered to ensure as little direct solar exposure as possible. These combinations guarantee that the façade is 100 per cent shaded in summer but receives sunlight in winter when it is most required.
