Hindustan Unilever Ltd, Gurugram

Commercial

Prominently located along the National Highway in Gurugram is the regional headquarters of India’s largest fastmoving consumer goods (FMCG) company, with a heritage of more than eighty years in the country – Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL). The 1-acre site, which is located at the junction of two major roads, is part of a large commercial complex. The immaculate edifice is a modern representation of an office building. A harmonious symphony of forms and design elements on the façade define a character that is synonymous with the project. The design challenge was to create a distinct identity for the building, which is dwarfed by large office towers surrounding it. A sculptural massing, creation of a distinctive landscaped terrace on the first floor, a faceted glass façade resulting in multiple reflections and visual play – all became tools to create an identity for HUL’s headquarters. The site has been extensively landscaped with heavy and dense foliage in order to use natural elements as noise and dust barriers. A rectangular building has been scooped out from one edge, creating a remarkable visual feature for the overall design.
