The Vidya Sanskar School was built on the principles of passive architecture, believing sustainability to transcend measures like solar panels and water harvesting, which are very often afterthoughts to the overall scheme of the design. The vision for this campus was to imbibe the values of a sustainable building in the very layout, architectural features, building details and materials used.
A courtyard typology has been adopted to control the microclimate and allow the passage of fresh air and sunlight into the built mass. Continuous sunshades or “chajjas” along the façade allow the passage of diffused sunlight. Great emphasis has been given to the need for natural day lighting and ventilation as this reduces the energy consumption of the campus considerably. The stepped form of the building overlooks a large playground, and the sweeping arms of the school make it a large, shaded enclosure.
