Paryatan Bhawan, New Delhi

Location: New Delhi
Site Area: 9 Acres

Located opposite Birla Mandir, this office building was built for the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). It uses an amalgamation of contemporary and local architecture to create dynamic forms that are deeply rooted in the Indian culture. The sweeping pergola is the stand-out feature, and creates a powerful impression, alluding to the idea of progress and development in the 21st century. Yet, Indian elements such as the traditional ornate moulding, terracing and lattices bring back the building to its cultural roots, not just as cosmetic decoration but also as integral components to the overall planning and design of the building.
