Location: New Delhi
The National Archives in New Delhi is a very prestigious project which was won through a national design competition. It was envisioned as a solid mass with recessed fenestrations and openings to portray strength, fortitude and stability. The choice of lasting, low maintenance materials for its finishes such as stone amplify the sombre look of the building. A large skylight creates an opening within the massive form to allow light to enter the interiors of the structure. National Archives overlooks a tree lined water body and green lawns.
Some of the facilities provided here include an 8 storeyed library and stack block, an auditorium, research scholar wing, canteen and technical archive facilities.
