Amaravati, as the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh, aims to be a vibrant and diverse city that is a magnet for industries, businesses and professionals from across the world. With this in mind, the objective behind the design of the Interim Government Office here is to reflect the cultural roots of the state, yet imbibe a contemporary style that appeals to a global community. The office therefore adopts the use of a second skin over its contemporary glass facade, not only to shield the interiors from the harsh sun, but also to reflect patterns intrinsic to the cultural fabric of the city. Lattices form an integral part of the architecture here, and the motif of the tree symbolizes democracy, inspired by the image of a grass root level panchayat meeting beneath a banyan tree.
