This is a new Medical College with annual intake of 100 students attached to 500 beds Army Base Hospital in Dhaulakuan. The new college with state-of-the-art facilities has a 1200 seater Auditorium and Hostels for 600 students. The large design requirements of 6 Lac sqft were required to be accommodated on a small awkward shaped 4 acre site. The site also had a few large trees. The design evolved by creating a built form which weaves around the existing trees. Further since the site has a ‘dual frontage’, one side facing the Ring Road and the other an approach to the city from the Airport, the Architect chose a form of sinuous curves which create a dual front façade. The client’s desire to have a glass façade was addressed by creating a curtain glazing on the northern side and complemented with a brick façade to lend an institutional feel to the building. This building was selected amongst the well designed buildings in Delhi.
